Customise a QR code
Colours, gradient, shapes, logo, caption, margin and error correction.
Open the QR designs tab and press New QR design. A preview updates as you change things; nothing is saved until you press Save. A design applies to the QR code of every link that uses it, and to its portal's.
# Ready-made looks
Classic, Night blue, Blue dots, Sunset, Forest, Paper, Leaf and Bars give you a starting point. Your caption, logo letters and margin are kept when you pick one.
# Colours
- Modules: the colour of the little squares.
- Second colour: tick Fade to a second colour and the modules shade from one colour to the other, corner to corner.
- Background: or tick Transparent background to place the code on a surface of your choice.
- Eyes: the three big squares in the corners can have a colour of their own.
A phone must tell the modules from the background. Colours with a contrast below 3 are refused, and the panel tells you when a choice is risky (light modules on a dark background, a thin margin). Dark on light is always the safest.
# Shapes
- Modules (the little squares): square, rounded, dots, vertical bars, horizontal bars, diamonds, leaves or spaced squares.
- Corner squares (the three big eyes): square, rounded, round, leaf, cut corners, square with a round dot, round with a square dot, or rounded with a round dot.
# Margin
The empty border around the code, from 1 to 8 modules (4 by default). Phones need it to find the code: keep at least 3.
# Logo at the centre
- Letters: up to 4 characters or an emoji, drawn in the modules' colour.
- Ready-made: a picture to pick among 23 (link, globe, star, heart, home, place, phone, mail, Wi-Fi, shop, camera, music, gift, coffee, restaurant, calendar, person, done, flash, flag, document, download, price). It is drawn in the colour of the code.
- Picture: a PNG, JPEG or WebP. It is reduced to 256 pixels before it is sent (200 KB at most). Remove it with Remove the picture. Only one logo shows: letters first, then a ready-made one, then your picture.
A logo hides about 5 % of the code, so the error correction is raised to the maximum automatically. Keep it simple, and test with your phone.
# Caption
A short text under the code (24 characters), for instance “Scan me”. It uses the modules' colour.
# Error correction
How much damage a code survives. Standard (M) is enough for a screen or clean print; Strong (Q) and Maximum (H) survive wear and dirt but make the code denser. A logo always uses H.
# Downloads and the public PNG
- The SVG and PNG buttons of the panel give exactly the preview.
- The public PNG address of the link (
/qr/<code>.png) keeps the colours, the transparency, the margin and the error correction, but not the shapes, the logo or the caption. Those are in the SVG address (/qr/<code>.svg). - Add
?plain=1to an address to get the plain black and white code.
# Back to plain
Back to the plain code removes the style and the logo.
To reuse a look on many links, save it as a design: QR designs.
